Microspikes vs the Tararuas.

Customer Andrew Croskery tests his Kahtoola Microspikes on his usual trail run in the midst of New Zealand's once in a generation perfect storm.

Andrew got in touch with us after having heard rave reviews about Microspikes from one of the worlds best trail runners. This well executed product bridges the gap between Petzl's Spikey Plus, which are great for walking on ice, and a pair of walking crampons likely to be used during easy mountaineering. Like the Spikey Plus the Microspikes easily pull over your running or hiking shoes or boots in a matter of seconds. They consist of cross over chains with about 8 miniature crampon spikes all connected to an elastomer strap.

Kahtoola themselves recommend them for winter trail running. You could fit them in your pocket ready for use whilst putting chains on your car at the snow, visiting anyone of a number of ice canyons in the Canadian Rockies or during a jaunt around Japan's northern most island of Hokaido in winter or perhaps during and alpine pass tramp in New Zealands Southern Alps. But be quick, we seem to be selling through these faster than anticipated.
